I was walking around my apartment on deadline the other night thinking about this column—thinking about what the Hektor of Troy I was going to write about. I knew it was going in our fantasy football issue, but I’m not a fantasy football guy. I’m just not. I want to be. I want to be like my colleague, Sports Yapp podcast host Bryce Johnson, who has a ring sitting on his desk with “Bryce” carved into the band for his 2010 Fantasy Football Championship. (Trust me, I know it’s there; he’s showed it to me seven times...)

Lying in bed for two months with a broken neck, 18-year-old Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite made a list of 10 goals. Nevermind the fact that he was uncertain to ever play again after fracturing his sixth vertebra at the bottom of a waterslide. And forget cautious optimism. These were audacious dreams even for a boy raised on the soccer mania of Brazil...

This is the first in a series we are starting here on SportsSpectrum.com called Sports Spectrum "Conversations," where, you guessed it, we have a conversation with a Christian athlete or personality. It will be in Q&A format and in audio podcast to go along side of it, so you can enjoy the interview either way. This edition of Sports Spectrum "Conversations" features the man who many people call the face of TNA Wrestling (Thursdays 8 ET SPIKE TV), the "Phenomenal" AJ Styles. Styles (born Allen Neal Jones) is a TNA Grand Slam champion, which means he's held every championship there is to hold in the company, and is one of the most exciting wrestlers in all of pro wrestling today. Styles joins us to talk about his wrestling career, how he became a Christian, what it's like be a Christian in the pro wrestling industry, why Tim Tebow can't take his shirt off in public, his love for Christian hip-hop, and the Super Mario Bros...

Paul Felix sees a different side of things. His daughter Allyson Felix, for example, won three track and field gold medals at the London 2012 Olympic games, the most any female track athlete has earned since 1988. But her most impressive feat, he believes, wasn’t her 200-meter victory, a race where she had disappointedly taken silver four years before in Beijing and eight years before in Athens…or her 4x100-meter relay gold…or her 4x400-meter relay gold...

It’s only fitting that San Francisco 49ers kicker David Akers considers the Old Testament account of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego his favorite Bible story. These three guys not only survived being thrown into a fiery furnace, but Jesus was seen there in the fire with them through it all. The same can be said of Akers, a devout Christian who has faced some trying times over the past few years...

All eyes in the sports world were on Southern California last fall when USC football coach Pete Carroll named Matt Barkley starting quarterback. The story...

"Cart-offs” and “knockouts” aren’t terms that normally produce thoughts of leadership and the NFL. If anything, they make me think of the anything-goes-world of boxing. But that terminology, made infamous this past spring because of the connection to the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal, or “Bounty Gate” as it’s been dubbed, is actually synonymous with the NFL and a lack of leadership...
