Video of the Week: I Am Second® — Clayton Kershaw

L.A. Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw gave his bullpen the day off on Monday — throwing a complete-game two-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds for his third shutout already this season.

Kershaw showed near complete control over his pitches and the Reds’ hitters — a typical characteristic of the three-time Cy Young Award winner. Control, however, is something that Kershaw didn’t always have, especially early in his life.

In the video featured above, Kershaw talks with “I Am Second” about his early struggles with anxiety and worry, and how he turned to Jesus for peace, rest and reliance.

“The harder you want to control something, the more it gets out of your control. The more you try to grip control of your life, the more God’s going to untangle that from you. He’s going to make things go to where you have to rely on Him.”
