NBA Player Kyle Korver Brings Awareness to Slavery on Basketball Court

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kyle Korver is known for being one of the best shooters in the NBA. He’s made over 2000 three-pointers in his 14-year career and holds the NBA record for the highest three-point field goal percentage in a season (53.6%).

But on Thursday February 23, Korver took advantage of his platform as a professional basketball player by drawing a red X on his right hand. By doing this, Korver joined thousands of people across the country who were bringing awareness to human trafficking and slavery by joining the “End It Movement.”

Korver scored 20 points in the Cavs 119-104 win over the Knicks Thursday, but after the game, he wasn’t talking basketball, he was talking about that red X on his hand.

“The red X that I’m wearing, it’s on my clothes too, went all out today,” Korver told Cleveland.com. “One day a year, and literally thousands of people across the world, letting people know there’s over 27 million slaves in the world today.”

Korver, a devout Christian, tells Cleveland.com that he will continue to bring awareness and fight for those who can’t stand up for themselves. “I think it’s the fifth year, everyone putting on a red X and posting it on social media. Raising awareness. Just trying — I mean, people hear that number (27 million) and they’re like, ‘Man, are you serious? I didn’t know about that.'”
