“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Joshua 1:5

Never Forsaken

My varsity volleyball team was playing our biggest rival on their home court. I was pumped up and eagerly dove for the ball. My right arm smacked the gym floor violently, I felt a strange twinge and then my arm began feeling very weird. I was not sure what had happened, but I knew that it was not right.

The result of that play was that my ulnar nerve had popped itself out of its narrow groove in my elbow. That nerve rubbed back and forth inside my arm until it was fraying badly and the only option was surgery. I had lost all the motion of my last three fingers on my right hand and it was only getting worse.

The day after my 18th birthday I had surgery to embed the nerve into muscle in my arm so it would not sustain any further damage. With physical therapy I was projected to regain all my motion back in my fingers, hand, and arm, but I would have to relearn how to do some things. Since I am right-handed this was going to be a task.

As a group of my friends headed to Florida for spring break during my senior year of high school I recovered from surgery with a huge cast on my arm. A few months later, on the same day I graduated from high school, my physical therapist surprised me by telling me I was also graduating from physical therapy that day.

It still hurts to think of that time of my life. But, God was with me through every step. He never left me and He never will. Are you struggling today? Do you feel hopeless? Do you hurt? Come to Jesus and let Him love you. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He will be with you always and forever.
