“As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.” – 1 Samuel 17:48-49

Do You Believe in Miracles?

Whether it be the undefeated Patriots losing in the 2007 Super Bowl to the Giants or Roberta Vinci defeating Serena Williams in the 2015 U.S. Open semifinals or the eighth-seeded Villanova Wildcats beating top-ranked Georgetown to win the 1985 NCAA Tournament, we have seen some truly incredible sports upsets. However, the United States’ 4-3 victory over the Soviet Union in hockey during the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, known as the “Miracle on Ice”, just might top them all.

As impressive as those upsets may be, they pale in comparison to the miracles God can perform. From Jesus walking on water to Moses parting the Red Sea to Abraham and Sarah giving birth to Isaac despite their old age, God has proven time and time that he is capable of anything.

Brooklyn Nets guard Jeremy Lin once said that “sometimes you come up against a mountain and you end up making the mountain seem bigger than God.”

As we encounter “mountains” in our lives, it is important to remember just how powerful our God is. There is no problem too big or burden too heavy for Him but sometimes we forget that. The next time you’re coming up against a mountain, don’t forget that God is on your side!

And if God is for us, who can be against us?
