“How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” —Matthew 7:4-5

Receiving Clarity

It can be easy to recognize all the ways that others are messing up. We often measure ourselves up against everyone around us and think, “At least I’m not that bad.” Or we get so caught up in our own to-do list of what’s right and what’s wrong that we take the focus off of Christ and put it on ourselves. Both of these perspectives will leave us disappointed to say the least. Neither of these mindsets are the way that we receive clarity and favor from the Lord! Christ tell us to keep our eyes fixed on His face and then we will see things clearly (Hebrews 12:2).

When we set our attention on Christ, we gain an eternal perspective. No longer will we be tempted to try to “fix” ourselves or others; instead, we will be so enamored with the presence and beauty of Christ that we can’t help but aim to replicate and proclaim His glory. That is our purpose on earth—to bring glory to the One who is worth admiring. What steps can you take today to change your focus and gain the perspective of Christ?
