“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” 1 Peter 2:9

BECOMING A PRIEST

Whenever I meet someone for the first time, I enjoy the reaction that I get from them when I tell them I’m a pastor. It makes some people like me more and some less, but everyone is more respectful and proper. Why? Because that “title” carries some weight. It speaks to my character and lifestyle. In their eyes, I’m holy—which means “set apart,” and they respect that.

In the passage above, Paul calls the followers of Christ a “royal priesthood.” Just like a pastor and a priest are viewed as holy, all Christians are set apart. We’re all priests! Unfortunately, our lives don’t always tell the same story.

When people interact with you, are they aware that there’s something different about you? In other words, do you set yourself apart from them by your character and lifestyle choices? If we are the royal priesthood of a holy God, our lives must confirm that spiritual assignment.

Today’s assignment is to ask God to reveal an area of your life that is unholy. Then, ask Him to give you the strength to walk in holiness. And remember, no matter what your past holds, God can raise you up and make you holy—a royal priesthood.
