Devotional of the Week: Innocent Boldness

“Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The LORD who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine. Saul said to David, ‘Go, and the LORD be with you.’” I Samuel 17:36-37

David was not naive, he just believed that God was consistent. If He could help him defeat wild animals like a bear and a lion, which normally would tear apart many giants like Goliath, then why couldn’t He help him beat one human?

David’s unspoiled mind, which hadn’t been corrupted by the negativity of those who were fearful, had an innocence that we all need to recover to conquer the giants in our lives.

Remember how fearless you were as a small child when you played football in the yard? You ran up and down the “field” with no concern at all. No concern of being tackled, tripping over a root (or your own feet) or of even looking bad in front of whoever you were playing.

That innocence gets lost sometimes when we let others influence us or we allow our own life experiences to dictate how we think the next life experience will be, thereby acting out of fear of failure instead of a confidence in God.

Change that today. Immerse yourself in God’s Word (Romans 10:17, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”) and live a life of fearless and innocent obedience to God, who is in complete control and who is the Creator of all things.
