Q. Do you rely on God in your races?
A. Oh, yes, without God I cannot do anything. It means a lot to me. I realize that I can’t do anything without God. I have to pray hard. I have to stay focused because I know that it’s impossible for somebody to train hard and to be in top shape, because without God you can’t do anything. Sometimes, they say miracles can happen. You have to believe in God and you have to believe in yourself. When you believe in God, that God can do this for me, and I have to go and you have to go do it.

Q. Does God only relate to you in athletics? What about outside athletics?
A. Yes, God relates to me everywhere. Sometimes, when I’m down. Oh, I’m broke. I’m this. …God always provides for me. Last year, before I won the African Games, before I won the 100 and 200 meter. …that’s how God proved Himself to me, that, oh, I can still do it.
