The Pittsburgh Penguins are the reigning Stanley Cup Champions and currently are in the race for the top spot in the NHL’s Eastern Conference.

Jimmy Mains is a huge fan and was attending the Friday March 3rd matchup between his Penguins and the Tampa Bay Lightning. A few days earlier, Mains had posted on Facebook that he had an extra ticket. Unsuccessful in his attempt to take someone to the game, Jimmy headed to PPG Paints Arena by himself, with 2 tickets in hand. What happened next was pretty awesome.

Jimmy spotted a homeless guy, who had asked him for money. Instead, Jimmy countered with an invite to the Penguins game. Surprisingly, the man, who said his name was Rob, accepted.

I asked Jimmy how the experience was for him. “It was awesome. We stood for the National Anthem in which we both sang out loud. From the time the puck dropped we were both cheering the whole game. We had chicken tenders to eat and Rob had a water to drink.”

Jimmy said after the game, he and Rob both walked together to his vehicle. “He gave me his number and I helped him out with his bus fare. I then went to work and he went on his way.”

1 John 3:17 says, “If anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?” 

Jimmy saw a brother in need and extended a hand through a ticket to a hockey game. Often, being kind and generous to those we don’t know can result in wonderful moments like this.
